Course 3 is a 13-week clinical practicum course for professionals who have not had supervised, clinical experience working with students. The International Dyslexia Association standards require that therapists have, in addition to coursework, a supervised clinical practicum in which they gain experience applying the knowledge and skills learned in coursework to clinical intervention. Educational professionals whose background is classroom teaching, for example, will need a practicum to qualify as a Lexercise therapist.

Educational/ academic therapists, speech-language pathologists and psychologists who already had at least 100 hours of supervised clinical practicum experiences providing 1-on-1 intervention with students do not need this course to qualify as a Lexercise therapist. The assumption is that professionals who have had a previous supervised practicum will be able to apply the structured literacy methodology without needing another practicum. For example, surgeons do not have to repeat their internship and residency when they learn a new surgical technique.

Under the supervision of a Lexercise clinician and using the Lexercise teletherapy platform, the supervisee will provide structured literacy therapy for 3 clients for 12 weeks (Lexercise will provide the clients). The first week of the 13-week course will be devoted to teletherapy technology training and the next 12 weeks to structured literacy teletherapy services. This course involves ~ 100 hours of clinical experience (a minimum of 6.75 hours per week or 87.75 hours over the 13-weeks of the course).

Trainees will develop skills with teletherapy tools and with research-backed methodologies for structured literacy therapy.

The cost of this course is $2,000.

This course has been granted AccreditedPLUS status by the International Dyslexia Association as it prepares participants for the Knowledge and Practice Examination for Effective Reading Instruction (KPEERI) exam. Course participants are expected to take the KPEERI exam and are eligible for the Structured Literacy™ Dyslexia Specialist (SLDS) designation upon passing it.

The cost of the KPEERI exam is $165 and there is an additional Certification Administration Fee of $150.00 for those wishing to have the SLDS designation. More information can be found in the CERI certification guidelines at this link.

This course is for clinicians who have passed the Lexercise Qualification Test and want to understand in more detail how Lexercise teletherapy works.
